All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Prophet, his companions and those who follow them.

[1] Zakatul fitr is a compulsory sadaqa of foodstuff given to the poor at the end of the month of Ramadan.

[2] It purifies the fasting person from any vain or indecent speech.

[3] It is obligatory on each and every Muslim: male, female, young and old.

[4] It is better to pay on behalf of the fetus but not compulsory.

[5] It becomes compulsory after the sunset of the last day of the month of Ramadan.

[6] It can be given few days earlier in case of necessity.

[7] It must be given before Eid prayer, otherwise it is not considered as Sadaqatul Fitr.

[8] Everyone who has sufficient food with him, for himself and his family on the day of Eid and extra to pay Zakatul ul Fitr, must pay it.

[9] Everyone who can pay by himself should pay. However, a person can pay on behalf of his wives, children, parents etc.

[10] It is Sunnah to pay in the form of staple food that is consumed in that area like rice, wheat, dates, etc.

[11] Paying cash is not proven from the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) or the Sahabah.

[12] The quantity of Zakatul Fitr is one Sa'a, which is around 2.75 to 3 kg.

[13] Eight categories who deserve Zakah are eligible to receive Zakatul Fitr.

[14] It is highly recommended that the person should carry out this act of worship by himself instead of appointing someone else.

[15] It is allowed to appoint a trustworthy person to pay to the poor.

[16] Giving more than one Zakatul Fitr to a poor is allowed.

[17] It is better to pay the Zakatul Fitr wherever he is residing.

[18] It is allowed to pay in another country.

May Allah accept our fasting, prayers, Zakah, and all good deeds.
