About this course
Usool Al-Fiqh, Islamic Legal Theory, is one of the most important yet most complex disciplines of the Islamic Sciences. It’s considered to be a unique contribution of Islam to the study of Law. It deals with the rules and principles jurists use to derive Islamic Law from its primary sources; the Quran, Sunnah, Ijma’ and Qiyas. One of its main objectives is to provide jurists with a proper methodology for interpreting divine texts. This course will provide a brief history of the development and codification of Usool Al-Fiqh. It will examine the primary and secondary sources of Islamic Law, legal rulings, how they are derived and function, as well as a brief overview of the rules of interpretation.
